![]() ![]() She didn't like it at first but now she likes it. I have her on the wet version of Purina DM (Dietetic Management). She is on Lantus and her dose is 3.5 units twice a day. I will try the Cat Attract litter in one box and pellets in the other. It's sad to see how this has disabled her and so quickly. It is truly heart breaking because she used to be such an active, energetic cat. She was also receiving another shot of vitamins to try and help too. She has improved from what she was a few weeks ago. We do give her B12 shots once a week to try and help with the neuropathy. I also think her glucose levels are not regulated correctly. I will look online to see how to go about doing that. I do want to learn how to check her glucose at home. He way preferred the pellets when given the choice. ![]() The clumping litter would cake in his toes because there was so much urine that it would pool around his feet while he peed. I put several low-sided boxes around the house in all the areas that he would go, but I also had to change his litter to non-clumping pellets. īefore my cat's diabetes was better regulated, he would also pee outside the box due to a combination of neuropathy and urgency (just couldn't make it to the box in time). You might also want to look into methylcobalamin (methyl b12) supplementation to help with the neuropathy. What type of insulin is she on, and what is the dose? It sounds like her diabetes still isn't very well regulated. Also, are you cleaning the pee areas really well with an enzyme cleanser? If not, the old urine smell is telling her that it's a good place to pee.Ĭlick to expand.Have you thought about learning to test her blood glucose yourself, at home? That would save you a huge ton of money, and most likely be way more accurate. Cat Attract litter has been known to be really helpful to retrain cats to use the litter box. You can line it with pee pads or use a different litter than you are using now. I would add a second new box and put it where she is urinating now. One, it sounds like you only have the one litter box. There may also still be residual pain, so I would have another urinalysis run to ensure the infection is gone and that there isn't another problem going on like crystals/stones. However, if the behavior continues for a long time it can become ingrained. Many times, once the pain is gone, cats go back to using their box without issues. I think the issue is that between the UTI and diabetes, she is associating the painful urination with the litter box. Sorry to hear that your cat is having such troubles. But her personality is the same (loving, loves food, loves taking lots of pets). I feel part of the problem is she is no longer able to jump (due to neuropathy) so she has lost some of her feedom. She is the only cat in the household and there are no other pets. If I can't find out how to fix this situation I'm afraid of what the final solution would have to be. Any ideas or referrals of a cat behaviorist would be much appreciated. I am willing to have a cat behaviorist come in to help. I am at my end of ideas and desperately need help. We put pee pads in the area she pees on and she went pee on the edge of the pee pad, on the floor. She can literally walk right in ( and does to poop). We thought maybe that is why she stopped using the litter box to pee so we modified her box so she can walk in and out without having to climb. And I have now spent over $5,000 in testing and trying to make her better Because she has diabetic neuropathy from the diabetes she has trouble using her back legs. The vet cannot find any other medical reason for this. I have taken her to the vet every Friday for the past 6 weeks to do glucose curves and have made the vet aware of her peeing problem. The problem is she is not using the litter box to urinate. She just finished the antibiotic yesterday. She did have a UTI which we had her on antibiotics for. I have a 12 year old female cat that we recently found out has diabetes.
